We are a part of modern society which thrives on global communication, and as denizens of civil society, we connect and understand any phenomenon around us by the virtue of a language. Therefore, language acquisition is of utmost importance in a developing child, the seeds of which are sown in a tender age at MRIS. Our primary wing puts emphasis upon an easeful yet effective acquisition of language be it our ancient language Sanskrit, mother tongue Hindi, official language of trade English or be it any global language such as German, Spanish and French. Through interactive activities, we strive to engage our students in an immersive experience of learning, understanding and applying the language skills. The four pillars of language development- Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing –are kept in the centre stage while planning activities and curriculum. Some of the effective pedagogical methods in our class are:-
- Guided Reading: At a tender age when students are fumbling to pronounce words correctly, our teachers provide with special guided reading sessions solely focused on phonetics and linguistic development.
- Story Weaving: Imagination is an important part of expression which is facilitated by language. Therefore, story weaving sessions encourage young students to widen the horizon of their imagination and learn to express through language.
- Read Aloud: As the grades go higher, students take the reins of reading along with their peers. The students are encouraged to read and share their interesting story books.
- Group Discussion- Dialogue is vital for opinion formation as well as an effective way of expressing as child grows and gets exposed to various human phenomena. Group Discussions give an opportunity to Formalize, Evaluate, Express, and Re-evaluate their ideologies.
- Flip Teaching: Teaching is a performative art that demands impeccable language delivery. Through flip teaching, the students learn to research and come across as legible speakers.
- Role Play: The best way to understand something is to get into its skin. Students are encouraged to perform creative role plays which develop their cognitive as well critical thinking abilities along with development of spoken and expressive language.
- Creative Learning: To facilitate all the four aspects of language development (listening, speaking, reading, writing), various creative tools such as reading/listening/picture comprehensions, journal writing, extempore, etc are used frequently in the classrooms.
