At Manav Rachna International School, Mohali, the infirmary serves not only as a respite from health issues but also imparts knowledge to children as far as staying healthy goes. Thus the ‘International First Aid Day’ was celebrated with the little ones from Early Years by sharing basic aspects of First Aid along with practical ‘Health and Hygiene’ tips. The first round of discussions was based on how one might suffer from minor injuries during playing or performing physical activities, which can be easily handled at the individual level by following basic First Aid steps. These include washing hands, wearing gloves, cleaning the wound with warm water followed by the application of an antiseptic or an antibiotic ointment, and finally covering the wound with a band-aid. The steps to be undertaken to tackle a nose bleed, snake bite or fracture were demonstrated to the students.
During the second round of discussions, the children were enlightened about basic lifestyle changes to ensure general well-being that include avoiding the consumption of junk food, carbonated drinks, packaged or processed food items and including exercise as a part of their daily routine.
The children pledged to follow these tips to avoid tooth pain, vitamin deficiency, obesity or other health issues and increase their energy levels by getting better rest and sleep and consuming more nutritious meals.
