Over the past few weeks, we have cheered and clapped for ISRO and Chandrayaan 2 as the lunar orbiter made rapid progress towards the moon. However, on D-Day Vikram lander came to a kissing distance of the moon’s surface and lost contact with the ISRO headquarters.
This dashed the hopes of not just all the brilliant scientists working at ISRO but of billions of Indians, especially children, many of whom aspire to work in the field of space research. All of us were excited about India joining a league of elite nations who had sent their missions to the moon’s surface.
Alas, it was not meant to be. Even as all of us laud the people behind this wonderful project, there’s a sense of regret and the lingering question, “Why could we not make history today?”
However, that’s how life is. Just when we start taking it for granted, it throws a not-so-pleasant surprise as us. So does that mean we continue wallowing in pity and regret? Or should we pat our backs and carry on with our journey giving it our best?
Even as our hearts go out to the people involved in the Chandrayaan 2 mission, we must learn a few life lessons from it: life doesn’t always give us what we desire, we must continue giving our best to all our endeavors and we should not carry the weight of regret on our shoulders. In fact, we should move on to bigger, better things because success comes only to those who work tirelessly.
Therefore, at this crucial juncture, we should request our beloved Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to motivate the Chandrayaan 2 team to work towards building Chandrayaan 3. Our scientists have done a wonderful job with the complete support of the PM and they can achieve greater heights in the future as well.
It is also the time for all of us to show solidarity with the scientists of ISRO and our PM because together we can and together we will conquer the Moon again.
