An enlightening session on ‘Drug Abuse Awareness and Prevention’ was organised in the premises of Manav Rachna International School, Sector 14, by the Faculty of Education, Manav Rachna University (MRU) under the guidance of Dr. Babita Parashar, Dean – Faculty of Education, MRU in collaboration with the National Institute of Social Defence. The session was inaugurated with the Green Welcome being accorded to the Resource person, Prof. Jyoti Kakkar from the Department of Social Work, Jamia Millia Islamia, by the Director Principal, Ms Mamta Wadhwa and Vice Principal, Dr. Shalini Bindra.

A street play exhorting the consequences of Drug Abuse was presented by the students of B.Ed. department from the MRU. Prof. Kakkar addressed the students of Grade-12 deliberating upon the ‘Substance Abuse’ among adolescents that leads to naïve minds succumbing to consume excess of alcohol and drugs thereby leading to impaired control, disabilities and a negative social image. Expounding upon the reasons and situations that lead to such an abuse, Prof. Kakkar also dealt with the indispensable role played by family, friends, school and a conducive environment to tackle such issues. The therapeutic effect of meditation, probiotics, proper sleep and music was also discussed. The session concluded with the listeners imbibing the essentiality of prioritizing self and learning when to say ‘No’ to avoid peer pressure. The venue reverberated with the lively interactions of the keen students with the spokesperson. Director Principal, Ms. Mamta Wadhwa extended the vote of thanks to the spokesperson for effectively counseling the senior students and making them aware of the power that resides in every individual.
