The Open Secret – Hard Work!!!

I am Kartik Singh. I am 9 year old. I am a Class IV student of MRIS-51, Gurugram. I play Competitive Golf at National and International Level. I am presently ranked No. 1 in the country in my age group. At the World Junior Golf Championship at Pinehurst, USA which was held from 1 – 3 Aug 19, I finished 3rd out of 146 Golfers from around the World. Golf is my passion and I want to become No. 1 Golfer in the World when I grow up.

Many of my friends keep asking me – ‘What’s the secret of your success in Golf?’

Well, actually, it is an open secret – Hard Work. Here is how it all began.

I got inspired to play Golf when I saw my father playing Golf. Those days, I was at Kochi and there was a Golf course next to my house. My father once took me to the Golf course and I immediately started liking the game. I love the sound of club hitting the ball. I like to hit the ball long and straight – a difficult challenge but I love. I also got inspired from the story of Jason Day who is one of the best Golfers today. During my initial days of Golfing, I once happened to read his story in a newspaper. Jason Day had got his first Golf set out of a garbage box. He was not wealthy but through hard work and dedication, he went on to become World No. 1 Golfer. The story taught me also the open secret of ‘Hard Work’. Then, my father also told me about a book called “Ten Thousand Hours”. As per the book, you need to put in at least 10,000 hours of practice to become a Master in any field. That’s the goal for me. I want to complete my 10000 hours before I become 19 years old and become the best Golfer ever!!! So far, I have completed 1,545 hours and have a long way to go. I try to work hard every day and practice at least five days a week for around 2 – 3 hours. My coach says, it is my hard work combined with talent that has given me results so far. Hope, I get to my goal some day. I will need all the luck, wishes and support in my journey.
