A Disaster management Workshop was organised for the teachers at Manav Rachna International School, Ludhiana on 29th May, 2015. The workshop was conducted by Col. Sandeep Bhatia, father of Kirav Bhatia, a student of K.G. A  of Manav Rachna International School Ludhiana. Col.  Bhatia is a second generation officer and has handled various operations in Indian Army and is an active participant in handling various operations of natural calamities in different parts of the country. He apprised the teachers with the concept of reducing disaster risk through systematic analysis and management of the causal factors of disaster. He helped the teachers understand their role in case of a disaster. Col. Bhatia communicated that as a responsible citizen of the country, they should be ready to handle a disaster at all times. According to him, help from any quarter takes time to reach; however, people on the spot can certainly reduce the extent of disaster if they are equipped to do so. It’s the community that can help first before any government agency comes into play. He exhorted the teachers to be prepared to face any disaster. He briefed them about different kinds of disasters and the various agencies that can train them to handle any mishap. He emphasised on preparing standing operating procedures for clarity of instruction to every team member so that there are no communication gaps in the wake of any disaster. Ms. Shilpi Gill, Vice-Principal, Manav Rachna International School, Ludhiana thanked him for helping the teachers understand how they can be instrumental in reducing the damage caused by any disaster.
