Middle Years

The Middle Years Programme is a framework for learning designed to foster critical, creative, and reflective thinking in students.

The MYP is intellectually challenging and encourages students to establish connections between the subjects they study and real-world experiences. It fosters the development of interpersonal understanding, communication, and global citizenship—qualities essential to the next generation of global leaders.

At MRIS IB, the MYP focuses on transferable key concepts and closely related subject-specific concepts that extend beyond specific fields of study, time frames or places of origin. According to the IB, learning is at its finest when it is contextualized, linked to real-life scenarios, and rooted in the student’s experiences.

It identifies six global contexts that are transitionally based on the PYP transdisciplinary themes to accomplish this goal. Throughout the programme, these are investigated through inquiry-based units in every subject to foster a shared sense of global responsibility, human connection, and world awareness in the students. Concepts and contexts work together as a lens to highlight “Big Ideas” that apply across units and subjects and embed a real-world component.

The MYP awakens the students’ curiosity and strengthens research expression, application, and presenting skills. At MRIS IB, students get extensive experience working in collaboration, sharing knowledge, and applying skills from one subject to another.

International-mindedness is an integral part of MYP and the emphasis on multilingualism allows for open-minded thinking and effective communication.

about us

Every year the students explore innovative and creative ways of connecting two or more subjects through purposeful and collaboratively designed units (IDUs) by the team of our experienced educators.

IDUs enable students to effectively transfer their knowledge, comprehension, and abilities across subjects, which motivates them to solve problems and get hands-on involvement in how they can now and in the future make a difference as global citizens.

Through service, students acquire the information, abilities, and values essential to interact with the world as global citizens. The IB MYP has a strong emphasis on service, which highlights the value of applying classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios. It involves more than just doing a task; it entails thinking back on the events of the past, growing in self-awareness, and realizing how the actions affect the community—both locally and globally

The Personal Project, an independent project completed in MYP 5, culminates the students’ MYP Journey. Perfectly aligned with the DP Cores, it is an opportunity for the students to select an area of interest and seek further information about it to consolidate their MYP education.

They accomplish this by conducting methodical research and are evaluated using predetermined standards.
