The students of Manav Rachna International School Sector-51, Gurugram visited Rose Garden, Faridabad on Sunday to spot butterflies under the ongoing butterfly count in NCR region. This Big butterfly count was organized by BNHS and forest department of India with the aim of spreading awareness about butterflies and to gather scientific information which will further help in execution of butterfly conservation. The children were then taken to an area with loads of weeds and floss flowers where they spotted 14 different species of butterflies.

Ms Prachi Singh, a chartered accountant and a corporate trainer by profession and lepidopterist by passion has been nurturing butterflies for the past 16 years. She visits schools, radio channels and conduct butterfly conservation events in various cities. She spoke about how butterflies are becoming extinct and kids being the future of the country need to save them. She also talked about seed balls and how these can be made at home and distributed to the students so as to attract more butterflies.

The students also got a chance to meet Samarth Khanna, a passionate environmentalist who has converted a wasteland into a mini forest, an ecological restoration site. He addressed the students and made them aware about the importance of conserving forests and also discussed about the different types of forests found in our country. This visit was quite informative and was thoroughly enjoyed by the students.
