A phonic based reading program helps children with their spellings as they learn to decode words using sounds and become an independent reader along with kindling a love for books.

Keeping in mind the plethora of benefits of reading, MRIS-14 has started with a leveled reading program- ‘ROAD TO READING’ where students of Grade 1,2 and 3 are guided, in small groups, into reading books that are based on Lexile levels. Through the leveled reading strategy, teachers pair the children with books that best match their reading abilities.

With improved reading skills, the teachers assign them with the next-level books. Their success in completing a particular level is recognized by awarding them with a certificate.

Children are encouraged to maintain a reading log which is a journal of every book that they read. By using a reading log, students can track their own progress as readers which will encourage them to keep reading.
