Learning how to make bio-plastics

Over the past few weeks, there has been a sustained campaign against the use of plastic, especially the single-use one. While one part of the problem involves reducing the usage of plastics in our daily lives, the other one involves looking for sustainable alternatives.

Thus as part of Annual Project 3 “Responsible Consumption and Production”, the students of Grades I to V at MRIS Charmwood visited the Chemistry lab to learn how to make bio-plastic and to understand its importance.

Bio-plastics are biodegradable and can help us deal with the increasing problems of litter, particularly in our rivers and seas. Plant-based bio-plastics are durable and can be recycled, assisting the growth of a more sustainable world.
