A workshop on Disaster Management and Emergency Risk Management organized for the students and faculty members by the department of NDRF at MRIS-Ludhiana. A lecture cum demonstration on disaster management to focus on capacity building and community awareness program was organized by Search and Rescue team of “A” Coy 7th NDRF led by AC/GD by Suresh Kumar.
The training session on ‘Strengthening National Disaster response’ was organized to help the students understand the steps to be adopted to respond to various disaster situations thus saving precious lives. In the event of disaster; planning, coordination and high state of preparedness the necessary steps that lead to handle crisis successfully were discussed. Hazards, vulnerability and risk which are the important aspects of disaster management were also shared with the students. The professional volunteers provided the students with proper training and education that is essential to handle a crisis.
The relevance of small precautions that can save the lives of millions in times of sudden disasters were highlighted. Resource Disaster Management and First aid Trainer demonstrated the various techniques through which we can rescue the victims with the available resources at the time of disaster in case of choking, heart attacks, drowning and poison. The students were briefed about the unexpected situations that occur .The students were taught some practical rescues to handle emergency situations without any special equipment inside as well as outside the school.
To create awareness among the students about the firefighting techniques and the ways to respond swiftly in times of such emergency situation, a mock drill was carried out in the school to prepare the students and teachers for any eventuality under the fire reduction program. It was organized to check the readiness of the school to face any such emergency during natural calamities and also to make the students and Staff aware about the firefighting rescue operations and procedures. An exhibition of rescue equipment was also held in the school premises and a live demonstration was given to the students explaining its uses and utility.
