Books supplement food for thought. With the advent of technology and I-Pads, Book Reading has gone for a toss. To promote healthy Book Reading habits in our students, Manav Rachna International School, Ludhiana has taken initiative to commence the ‘Book Reading Galore’ Program in a fascinating manner. ‘Roald Dahl Day’ was celebrated on the 12th of September, 2018. Roald Dahl has been the one of the most popular writers of children’s books in the 21st century. The books written by him have captivated imagination of children for ages. These books have been fuelling imagination and fantasy of children in the same manner.

Myriad activities were a part of this celebration. The celebration began with the enactment of the episode from the book ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ in which Mr. Willy Woonka gets very impressed by the wisdom Charlie possessed and gifts the chocolate factory to him. The tiny tots of Early Years to the students of Grade II applauded for their teachers in excitement. The children were bubbling with joy as they received their share of chocolates from Mr. Willy Wonka after the show. A quiz based on the book ‘The Magic Finger’ was also organized for the students of Grade III & IV which they read beforehand under the guidance of the facilitators. The quiz was conducted in four rounds based on Question/Answer round, Guess the picture round, Puzzle round and rapid fire round. To enhance the writing skills of the students, story re-writing activity was organized for Grade V-IX  on the book  ‘Matilda’. The students eagerly participated in all the activities and enhanced their reading skills.

Principal Dr. Rupali Saini appreciated the enthusiastic participation of the students and teachers, and remarked that such kind of activities will definitely help the students to become Avid Readers.
